FAYETTEVILLE (AP) — A private foundation and its chairman have given $1.25 million to the University of Arkansas in support of athletic director Jeff Long's decision to fire Bobby Petrino last week.

The Donald W. Reynolds Foundation announced a $1 million gift for a planned dining hall and study center for athletes. The foundation's chairman, Fred W. Smith, made a personal donation of $250,000 in support of the same center. Smith's gift will also rename an existing program the Jeff Long Student-Athlete Development Program.

The foundation cited Long's "courageous leadership" in firing Petrino, who led the Razorbacks to their first BCS bowl game and compiled a 21-5 record over the past two seasons.

The Las Vegas-based Donald W. Reynolds Foundation recently provided a $10 million challenge grant for a new UA football center.
