NACOGDOCHES, Texas _ A nine-run second inning carried starter Caleb McClanahan and the University of Central Arkansas Bears to a 14-1 run-rule victory over Stephen F. Austin on Saturday in Southland Conference baseball play at Jaycees Field.

McClanahan (5-4), a junior righthander, pitched UCA’s second complete game in as many days, striking out 6, walking one and allowing seven hits.

The Bears (23-25, 15-14), already up 1-0 after one inning, sent 14 batters to the plate in the second against three different SFA pitchers. In the inning, junior third baseman Garrett Brown was 2 for 2 with a leadoff single and a three-run home run. He finished the day 4 for 5 with three RBI and three runs scored.

UCA had 9 hits in the inning, with junior right fielder Forrestt Allday contributing a two-run triple and senior catcher Travis Snider a two-run single.

The Bears added another run in the fifth inning on Ethan Harris’ sacrifice fly that scored Logan Moon. In the sixth, UCA batted around again and got three more runs, with Moon and Marchall picking up RBI. Senior Bryan Willson brought in the game’s first run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning.

Meanwhile, McClahanan cruised through the SFA lineup all afternoon, getting the Lumberjacks in order four times and allowing only one extra-base hit. The Lumberjacks (20-30, 13-16) finally got on the board with their only run of the game in the seventh inning. But McClanahan got Rene Moreda to fly out to right field to end the game in a brisk 1:57 and record his fourth complete game of the season and UCA’s 12th on the year.

UCA finished with 15 hits, with Moon, a sophomore centerfielder, going 4 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Freshman shortstop Griffin Glaude and senior designated hitter Blake Roberts had two hits each. Every UCA starter scored at least once and seven of the nine had at least one RBI.

The series finale is set for 1 p.m. Sunday.
