SAN MARCOS, Texas — The University of Central Arkansas women’s track and field team finished 10th and the men 11th at on Sunday at the 2012 Southland Conference Outdoor Championships held at Texas State University.

For the women, sophomore Tanesha Maxwell finished fourth in the 100 meters (11.85) in the second best time in school history, and sixth in the 200 meters (25.08). Junior Courtney Efurd was ran a school record 4:38.26 and finished sixth in the 1,500 meters.

Freshman Jean Black finished fourth in the No. 2 time in school history (14.23) and sophomore Anilah Bashir finished fifth (14.71) in the 100 hurdles. Erika Setzler of Conway ran a school-record 39:28.93 in the 10,000 meters while UCA’s 4x400 relay team of Black, Mary Douglas, Jasmine Ellis and Khadijah Smith set a school record at 3:48.50 and finished ninth. Junior McKinley Rea of Conway broke her own school record in the pole vault with a jump of 3.55 meters, good for 11th place.

UCA also got points on Saturday in the heptathlon from junior Jasmine Ellis (4th, school record 4,893 points) and junior Megan Snow (sixth, 4,685).

On the men’s side, senior Sage Raphael finished third (46.92) in a tightly contested 400 meter race. The winner ran 46.77 and second place was 46.91.

Sophomore Ben Gerber finished sixth in the 5,000 meters in a time of 15:00.38, third best in school history, while senior Demarcus Harrison was fifth in the 400 hurdles (52.82). Gerber also ran a 32:14.80 for ninth place in the 10,000 meters, the second-best time in UCA history.

UCA’s 4x400 relay team of Raphael, Harrison, Chance Tanner and Kelton Ray finished sixth in a time of 3:11.86 (5th in school history), while the 4x100 relay team was eighth in a time of 41.65.

On Saturday, UCA also got a fourth-place finish from Bobby Washington (2.10 meters, tied for 4th best) and a sixth from James Anderson (2.05) in the high jump, and a seventh from Wilburn Carter (56.78 meters) in the javelin.
