Seniors Forrestt Allday and Caleb McClanahan earned first-team All-Southland Conference honors on Monday, two of the seven University of Central Arkansas named to the three teams and honorable mention list by the league coaches and sports information directors.
Senior catcher Michael Marietta was named to the second team, while junior center fielder Jonathan Davis was a third-team selection. Senior second baseman Blake Marchal, senior pitcher Jeffery Enloe and junior pitcher Bryce Biggerstaff were honorable mention selections.
Allday, a two-time selection as a right fielder, is second in the league in hitting at .383 and leads the SLC in runs scored (51), on-base percentage (.514) and walks (42), and is fourth in slugging percentage (.503) and fifth in stolen bases (15). The senior from Friendswood, Texas, is also third in hits (74) and is a two-time SLC Hitter of the Week this season.
McClahanan, a senior righthander from Wynne, has been the staff ace this season with a 9-5 record and a 2.18 earned-run average, which ranks second in the conference. McClahanan leads the SLC with five complete games and is tied for first in victories (9), second in innings pitched (103.1) and fifth in opponent’s batting average (.213).
Marietta, from Oak View, Calif., is hitting .311 with 49 RBIs, which ranks second in the SLC. Marietta is also tied for seventh in runs scored (42), doubles (15) and on-base percentage (.418), and is ninth in slugging percentage (.484). Marietta has started 51 of 53 games behind the plate this season. He was a two-time SLC Hitter of the Week and set school and conference records with a 7-for-7, 11-RBI performance against Grambling State.
Davis, from Camden, was a second-team selection last season. He is hitting .274 and leads the SLC in triples (5), is second in stolen bases (22), fifth in on-base percentage (.431) and tied for seventh in walks (32).
Marchal, who has started 52 games at second base, is a senior from La Porte, Texas. He is No. 1 in the SLC in stolen bases (24), tied for fourth in RBI (44) and is tied for fifth in walks (34).
Enloe, a lefthander from Gonzalez, La., was UCA’s Saturday starter and put together a 7-5 record with a 3.17 earned-run average. He has a team-high 77 strikeouts (sixth in the conference) and threw four complete games to rank second in the SLC. He was named the SLC Pitcher of the Week on April 8.
Biggerstaff, a junior from Little Rock, threw UCA’s second no-hitter in history this season and had a 4-3 record with a 2.93 ERA. Biggerstaff tied for fourth in the league in complete games (3) and was 10th in innings pitched (89). He was the SLC Pitcher of the Week twice
The Bears (34-19), one victory away from matching the school record of 35 set in 1998, open play in the 2013 Southland Conference Tournament on Wednesday against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Game time is noon at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas.
