HUNTSVILLE, Texas — Sam Houston State scored an early goal and the University of Central Arkansas had a late one waved off in the Bearkats’ 1-0 victory in women’s soccer Friday night.

Sam Houston (6-7-1, 4-3-0 SLC) took a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute Shelby McDaniels fired a shot towards the Central Arkansas (6-7-2, 3-4-0 SLC) net. Kaitlyn Keith dove to make the save, but could not secure the ball, allowing Shannon Shields to take another shot, which sailed into the back of the net to give the Bearkats the lead.

It appeared as though Central Arkansas had found the equalizer in the 79th minute, as Marisela Chavez fired a shot home, but the goal was waved off on an offsides call.

Central Arkansas returns to action on Sunday afternoon at Houston Baptist.
