The Hendrix College men’s and women’s swimming teams opened the 2013-14 season with the 46th Annual Hendrix Classic at Bob Courtway Pool on Friday night.

"We showed a lot of heart," said first-year head coach Dan Lloyd. "I am really please with the way we have improved over the last few weeks."

Senior Jo Claire Robertson, sophomore Bayley Krell and freshmen Abby Schlenk and Claire DePree took fourth in the 400-yard medley relay in a time of 4:19.42. Krell swam the 200 breaststroke in 2:34.47, finishing taking fourth. Depree finished fifth in the 100 freestyle in 57.74. Robertson was sixth in the 200 backstroke in 2:16.48 and placed 12th in the 200 yard individual medley in 2:24.41.

The Hendrix men’s 400 medley relay tandem of senior John Byford, freshmen Chris Griffin and Troy Koser and sophomore Eric Mullins placed sixth in 4:01.78. Senior Samuel Maynard, sophomore James Gill, freshman Ben Robles and senior Clayton Jacbos finished third in the 400 freestyle relay.

Byford finished fifth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:05.72 and was 12th in the 100 freestyle in 51.35. Griffin finished the 200 breaststroke in 2:23.89, taking seventh and Koser swam a 5:25.22 time in the 500 freestyle, placing 10th.
