One week removed from shellacking Rogers 63-21in the opening round of the 7A State Playoffs, the Conway Wampus Cats once again have a familiar playoff opponent in the second week.

Every year since 2016, Conway has played Rogers in the opening round of the 7A playoffs and has won each time.

Since 2017, the Wampus Cats have had to travel to Bentonville West in the second round of the playoffs after beating Rogers.

In 2017, Conway beat the Wolverines 48-40 in Centerton, and then last season, Bentonville West won 31-17.

The win in 2017 over the Wolverines pushed the Wampus Cats to a semifinal appearance.

This year is the rubber match between the two schools as Conway make another trip to Northwest Arkansas.

The Wampus Cats are looking for their third straight nine-win season as they play the 7A West’s second seed. Conway has three losses on the season as the West’s top seed Bentonville beat the Wampus Cats in Bentonville 17-10 on Sept. 6.

North Little Rock then beat Conway 17-7 on Oct. 4 and then undefeated Bryant beat the Wampus Cats 42-7 in the final week of the regular season.

Bentonville West has four losses to its name this season and is currently on a two-game losing streak.

The Wolverines lost Aug. 30 to Oklahoma’s Owasso High School 47-34 and then was shut out by Bryant 38-0 on Sept. 13.

After the Bryant loss, Bentonville West rattled off five straight wins before Van Buren beat the Wolverines 35-30 and then Bentonville beat Bentonville West 30-7.

Despite the two losses, the Wolverines locked up the second seed and had a first-round bye last week.

Conway has outscored opponents 33-23 on a weekly basis, while Bentonville West has outscored opponents 32-25 weekly.

Hootens has this game as its 7A Game of the Week with the Wampus Cats coming away with a four-point win.

The game kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday night in Centerton at Bentonville High School as the Wampus Cats and Wolverines square off in round two of the 7A State Playoffs.
