The St. Joseph boys soccer team has already carved a piece of history.

This afternoon, the Bulldogs will go for a bigger piece of the pie.

The Bulldogs, who had not won a game in a state soccer tournament until this year, will play two-time state champion De Queen for the Class 4A boys title at 4 p.m. today at Lady Back Yard in Fayetteville.

"We’re playing very well right now, definitely peaking at the end of the year," St. Joseph coach Kevin Rittman said. "As a whole, I don’t think there was any turning point in a game. They guys just started getting along better. As a group of guys, this team really gets along well."

The St. Joseph girls had won back-to-back 4A titles before going out in the quarterfinals this year.

Rittman said he has not seen De Queen play but knows it will be a challenge.

"We have to play with the intensity like we had in our first three games (of the tournament)," he said. "We’ve had concentration and intensity and consistency. You can’t have any lapses when you play a team like De Queen."
