MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon-Enola’s boys and girls basketball teams claimed double titles Friday in the 1A-5 North tournament here.

The Lady Warhawks outscored Guy-Perkins 26-18 in the secon half on the way to a 65-52 victory.

Sydney Davies led MV-Enola with 14 points. Shane Smith added 11. Lisa Halk and Lindsey McGee scored 21 each for the Lady Thunderbirds.

The Lady Warhawks will play Sparkman at 4 p.m Wednesday in the regional tourney at Stephens. Guy will play at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The Warhawks rallied from a 34-20 halftime deficit, outscoring Lisa Academy, 33-17 in the second half for a 53-51 victory.

Josh West had eight points or MV-Enola and Adam Caudill added seven. David Williams scored 14 for the Jaguars while Terence Holoman added nine.

In regional play, MV-Enola will play Sparkman at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Stephens.


POYEN — Magnet Cove led basically wire to wire in taking a 50-40 victory over the St. Joseph girls Friday in the semifinals of the 2A05 tournament here.

Heather Moix led the Lady Bulldogs (23-9) with 24 points and 16 rebounds. Meagan Briggler added 10 points. Rachel Briggler had four points and six assists. Courtney Briggler had eight rebounds. Jennifer Hegeman added four steals.

“I was proud of our effort,” said St. Joseph coach Chris Kordsmeier. “It was a very physical game. We need to keep our momentum up as we enter the regional tournament next week.”


ALMA — Alma took a 63-53 victory over the Vilonia boys Friday.
Trevor Martin led the Eagles with 13 points and Trevor Martin added 10. Jake Martin had 15 and Doc Widders 12 for Alma.


The Faulkner County Falcons’ senior high team boys team defeated the Fayetteville Hornets, 67-56, at the Arkansas State Homeschool Basketball Tournament on Friday at the McGee Center.

Carter Mayo led all scorers with 19 points and Caleb Lawrence had 17 for the Falcons. Phillip Baker scored 14 and Trent Wolf added 12 points. Daniel McNair had 10 rebounds for the Falcons.

All three Falcons’ girls teams also made it to the final day of the tournament with the 16-and-under Falcon girls making it to the championship game.


BRYANT — North Little Rock defeated Conway White, 51-39, Thursday in the semifinals of the Central Arkansas Junior High Tournament.

Adrian Moore led the White with 16 points. Conway finished the season at 18-4.
