While two more teams from smaller schools in Faulkner County secured state berths Friday, officials at most regional sites scrambled to re-arrange weather-delayed tourneys in time for state tournament play next week.

The state tournaments begin Tuesday so semifinals and finals will be played Monday. Games Monday will be played earlier in the afternoon so teams can have time to get to state tourney sites.

Friday night, Guy-Perkins’ girls played a Class A first-round game at Greers Ferry West Side and Mayflower’s boys were in the 3A semifinals at Jessieville.

The revised schedule for Saturday and Monday:


Class AAA boys Region 3 at Jessieville: Third-place game, 1:30 p.m.; Championship, 7:30 p.m. (four teams advance to the state tournament at Riverview)

Class AA at Magazine: Semifinal games at 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Class A at Greers Ferry West Side, Mount Vernon-Enola girls vs. West Side or Wonderview, 2 p.m.


Class AA at Magazine: Girls championship, noon; boys championship, 1:30 p.m.; third-place games, 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. (four teams advance to the state tournament at Marmaduke).

Class A at Greers Ferry West Side: Girls championship, 1 p.m.; boys championship, 2:30 p.m.; third-place games, 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. (Four teams advance to the state tournament at Bradley).

St. Joseph girls

At West Side on Friday afternoon, Hackett outscored the Lady Bulldogs 32-18 the second half to break away to a 54-40 victory.

The score was tied at 22 at the half.

Madeline Moix led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points. Meagan Briggler had nine, Anna Mayor, eight, Rachel Briggler, five and Abby Kordsmeier, two.

St. Joseph boys

At West Side, St. Joseph’s boys jumped to a 25-11 lead and won their 29th game of the season and clinched a state berth Thursday with a 77-42 romp over Mountainburg.

"We played an outstanding offensive game," said coach Brent Bruich, whose team is the 4AA-East champion. "We moved the ball really well on offense and we shot it extremely well from the field, free-throw line and 3-point line."

Cole Schichtl and Andrew Beck led the Bulldogs (29-2) with 15 points. Schichtl added nine rebounds and Beck had five assists. Drew Bates added 13 points. Other leaders were: William Fields, eight points; Taylor Schrekenhofer, six points; Drake Cooper, six points and five rebounds; Dylan Schrekenhofer, five rebounds; Landon Enderlin, seven assists; Andrew Kordsmeier, three assists.

St. Joseph will play the winner of Hackett and Western Yell County in the semifinals.

"I hope our fans will come out and support our boys Saturday; we need all the support we can get," said Bruich.

Mayflower boys

JESSIEVILLE — Mayflower’s boys, the third-place team from 3A-5, surged their way into a berth in next week’s Class 3A state tournament Thursday night with a 72-58 victory over Riverview in the 3A Region 2 tournament here.

The Eagles earned a date against 3A-5 champion Episcopal Collegiate in Friday night’s semifinals.

Conway girls

MAGAZINE — Mountainburg’s girls, the No. 1 seed from 2A-4West, raced to a 20-2 first quarter lead on the way to a 65-34 victory over Conway Christian on Thursday night in the first round of the 2A West Regional tournament here.

Mary Morgan-Ellis scored 12 points for CCS, which entered the tourney the fourth seed from 2A-4East.

Magazine placed four players in double figures.
