Fort Smith Northside scored on a corner kick with eight minutes left Thursday night to take a 1-0 victory over Conway in boys soccer and take over sole possession of first place in 7A/6A Central.

The teams entered the game with 3-0 conference records.

After a scoreless first half, the Cats turned several attacks by Northside, which attacked more aggressively, before the Grizzlies managed the only goal of the game.

The CHS girls defeated Northside, 1-0.

The Wampus Cats fall to 3-1 in conference and the boys’ varsity team will play Little Rock Parkview on Tuesday, April 2 at home with kickoff scheduled for 5:00 pm. There will not be a girls match on Tuesday night.


Conway handed Fort Smith Northside (5-5, 3-1) its first 7A/6A loss of the season Thursday with a 5-4 victory at The Field at Conway.

Connor Prout, with relief held from Bubba Carter, picked up the victory for the Cats (9-3, 2-2).

Kyle Alexander homered for Conway while Cade Jones and Carson Cook had RBI doubles.


Derek Vickers (3-1) struck out five and tossed a three-hitter Thursday night as Mayflower went to 2-0 in conference with a 14-2 run-rule victory over Fountain Lake.

Garrett Taylor had a three-run homer for the Eagles (13-1, 2-0). Ty Folwer and Vickers also had RBI in the six-run second.

Mayflower added eight runs in the fourth on RBI by Taylor, Michael Post, Vickers, Trey Bradley, and Justin Sewell.  All Mayflower starters recorded either a hit or an RBI.

In JV action, the Eagles won, 8-1, with jared Rippee picking up the win. The Eagles were led at the plate by Tyler Godwin and Ryan Koonce, Also providing offense were Drew Duncan, Jason Dawson and Austin Grundy.
