Soccer supporters in Conway are joining Conway High officials in bringing an inaugural high school event to the city that they hope will highlight the increasing quality of soccer in the state.
Friday and Saturday, Conway will host a Wampus Cat Preseason Tournament of Champions.
Six boys teams that have won state championships in various classifications, most of them multiple, the last few years will come together for a tournament at John McConnell Stadium.
The teams are:
7A: Little Rock Catholic, four state titles (2002, 2007, 2009, 2010)
6A: Searcy High, state titles (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010)
7A: Conway High, two state titles (2004, 2008)
5A: Little Rock Christian, two state titles (2009, 2010)
4A: DeQueen High, two state titles (2009, 2010)
5A: Siloam Springs
A soccer tournament has never been held in Arkansas that features as many state teams of various classes who have won recent state championships.
Competition will be in pool play format with Catholic, DeQueen and Siloam Springs in Group A and Searcy, Little Rock Christian and Conway in Group B.
4:30: Searcy vs. LR Christian
6 p.m.: Catholic vs. DeQueen
7:30 p.m.: Siloam Springs vs. Conway
8:30 a.m.: Siloam Springs vs. Catholic
10 a.m.: DeQueen vs. LR Christian
11:30 a.m.: Conway vs. Searcy
1 p.m.: DeQueen vs. Siloam Springs
2:30 p.m.: LR Christian vs. Conway
4 p.m.: Catholic vs. Searcy
6 p.m.: Championship, Group A winner vs. Group B winner
