DALY, Calif. — Conway’s Summar Roachell came back off a shaky round in stroke play to easily win her opening match Wednesday in the U.S. Girls Junior Amateur golf tournament at Lake Merced Golf Club.

Roachell, a senior at Conway High, defeated Mackenzie Neisen of New Prague, Minn., 5 and 4, to advance to the round of 32.

The Conway golfer had stroke play rounds of 76 and 80 to tie for 34th in qualifying at 156, just three strokes away from the cut line. Neisen had stroke play score of 153 to qualify 26th. Favorite Arija Jutanugam of Thailand was the medalist in qualifying with a two-day score of 71-71 — 142, 2-under par.

Roachell will play Thursday in the round of 32.
