Conway guard Alexis Tolefree scored 56 points in two games this weekend in leading the Conway Lady Cats to the girls championship of the Bank of the Ozarks John Stanton Wampus Cat Invitational.

She scored 30 in a 65-54 victory over North Little Rock in the title game. She had 26 in a 92-91 overtime victory over defending 6A state champion Little Rock Hall in the semifinals.

“I was worried that our tank would be empty on energy after the victory Friday, but it wasn’t,” said Conway coach Ashley Nance after the victory over NLR. “Every game somebody has always stepped up.”

The Lady Cats frustrated North Little Rock with their zone defense and used transition baskets to pull away from the Lady Charging Wildcats the second half.

“We learned some things from the Little Rock Hall game,” she said.

Against Hall, Jordan Danberry added 25 points. Christen Rogers and Asia Willard had 13.

“There were times we could have a given up towards the end but we had someone step up in numerous clutch situations,” Nance said. “Little Rock Hall is a great team with three returning starters from a state championship team and they gave us our toughest game so far this season.”
