GREENBRIER — Mountain Home used a 13-point sprint in the second quarter to overhaul Cabot and take the girls championship, 55-42, Tuesday night in the First Security Bank Battle at the Brier.
It was Mountain Home’s first appearance in the tournament.
The Lady Bombers slipped behind by 16-6 in the first quarter then ran in seven straight points to trail by just 16-13 atg the end of the period. Cab it fired in six points early in the second period, then Mountain Home had the next 13 in a row and went into halftime ahead at 28-24.
Cabot managed to catch up at 33-all deep into the third quarter, then Nicole Bolt and Katie Kapler pushed the Lady Bombers back in front. Mountain Home finished the game with a strong of free throws, hitting 12 of 14 attempts late in the fourth quarter.
Kapler led the Lady Bombers with 21 points, followed by Bolt with 16 and Maggie Jo Cooper with 11. For Cabot, Jaylin Bridges and Kakie Thomas each had 11 and Melissa Wolf 10.
Conway Christian 24
Vilonia ran out to a 15-8 lead in the first quarter, widened it to 31-10 at the half and handled Conway Christian by 52-24 for third place in the Battle at the Brier.
The Vilonia girls had a strong performance from senior inside player Catherine Puckett, who scored 25 points. Betsy Bartlett added 8. For Conway Christian, Kelly Hays scored 9, Alexi Dather 8 and Christina DenHartog 7.
Mountain View 46, Greenbrier 39
Mountain View out-gunned Greenbrier in the second half en route to a 46-39 victory for seventh place. The Lady Yellow Jackets were up by 26-23 at halftime.
Lakin Snow scored 18 and Jessica Flanery 15 for Mountain View. Ali Rowden led Greenbrier with 13 points.
Beebe built momentum in the fourth quarter to sink Charleston’s Lady Tigers by 52-43 for fifth place.
Jamie Jackson had 31 points to lead Beebe’s Lady Badgers. For Charleston, Paityn McLaughlin scored 12 and Callie Fisher 10.
