The St. Joseph junior boys reached the finals of the Atkins junior high tournament after defeating Daradnelle 36-29 in Thursday night’s semifinal round.

"I’m very proud of the way the young men played (Thursday)," Junior Bulldogs coach Brent Bruich said. "They played hard and overcame some adversity. Free-throw shooting was the difference in the game down the stretch, along with taking care of the ball."

With the game tied at 15 at halftime, Dardanelle carried a 23-21 lead into the final quarter. However, St. Joseph (6-0) ended the game with a 15-6 run seal the win.

William Fields led the Junior Bulldogs with 10 points. Owen Echols and Jensen Thielke had six points each. Dylan Schrekenhofer, who also had 10 rebounds, and Britt Stroth had five points apiece.

St. Joseph reached the semis after defeating Pottsville 29-24 Wednesday.

Schrekenhofer led the way with 10 points and eight rebounds. Fields chipped in eight points.


The St. Joseph junior girls fell to Pottsville 34-31 Wednesday in the Atkins junior high tournament.

Madeline Moix led the way for the Junior Lady Bulldogs (1-3) with 15 points. Holly Rega and Monica Davanzo both had five points, while Caroline Dail chipped in four.


The Conway Blue ninth-grade boys team defeated Rogers Heritage 54-23 Thursday in the Whirlwind Invitational at Russellville.

The win was the first of the season for the Kittens, who controlled much of the game.

Grant Ellis led the way with 17 points. Derail McCoy finished with 16 points, while Derrick Phillips had 13.

On Monday, Conway Blue opened its season with a 55-52 loss to Russellville West.

McCoy led the  Kittens with 21 points. Ellis finished with 12 points, while Marquis Clemmons had 10.


The Greenbrier junior girls reached the finals of the Atkins junior high tournament with a 33-27 win over host Atkins on Thursday night.

With the win, the Junior Lady Panthers will play Lamar at 5:45 p.m. Saturday in the finals.

Allie Pack led Greenbrier with 10 points. Shelby Shaw added eight points, while Charline Lasley and Hannah Cleveland had four points each.

Wednesday, the Junior Lady Panthers defeated Dover 27-21. 

Pack led all scorers with 13 points. Brooklyn Freeling finished with five.




The St. Joseph senior boys and girls earned victories over Guy-Perkins on Tuesday night.

In the boys game, the Bulldogs rebounded from a sluggish start to take a 60-49 win. Guy-Perkins led 20-16 at halftime before St. Joseph (8-0) ended the third quarter on a 21-10 run. From there, the Bulldogs were able to control the game.

Andrew Beck led St. Joseph with 25 points. Andrew Kordsmeier finished with 12 points, while Mark Mallett, Drake Cooper and Cole Schichtl all had six points each. Schichtl also had a team-high 11 rebounds.

The Lady Bulldogs took a 51-39 victory, led by Heather Moix’s double-double performance of 20 points and 17 rebounds. Jennifer Hegeman added 10 points, while Courtney Briggler finished with six points and four blocked shots. Megan Briggler also had six points.
