Former University of Central Arkansas wide receiver Aaron Fairooz, recently cut by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League, had an impressive and award-winning debut Saturday in area football.
Fairooz, a 6-foot-6, 218-pounder was a key factor in the Arkansas Twisters' 63-62 victory over Amarillo in his Arena Football League2 debut.
He earned the league's Offensive Player of the Week honors with 14 receptions for 169 yards and five touchdowns.
Fairooz is the replacement for Rod Harper, another well-regarded rookie who was leading the af2 in scoring and receiving before earning an NFL contract with the New Orleans Saints.
The Twisters improved to 8-4 overall and continue to maintain their lead in the Southwest Division.
