LITTLE ROCK — Although no Wampus Cat won an individual championship, the Conway High wrestling team won the state 6A-7A championship Saturday in the third year of the program.
Conway had solid finishes in each of the 14 weight classes to earn 255.5 team points. Fayetteville was second among the 20 teams with 236 points. Little Rock Central was third at 226 and Rogers Heritage fourth at 191.5. Competition was at the Jack Stephens Center at Arkansas-Little Rock.
No Conway wrestler finished lower than consolation round 4 in this weight class.
The Wampus Cats recorded four seconds: Jaxson Myers at 140 pounds, Corven Alexander at 145 pounds, Camaran Azumara at 171 pounds and Hal Hoggard at 285 pounds.
Three Cats recorded third-place finishes: Connor Lusby at 119 pounds, Elliott Lusby at 125 pounds and Tanner Branscum at 130 pounds.
Major boosts in the point totals were also provided by Connor Aist, who finished fifth at 103 pounds, David Fulford, who was fourth at 215 pounds, and TJ Ruth, who entered the tournament with a losing overall record and went 3-2 before being eliminated in consolation round 5.
Ray Sessions, Conway coach, was named Coach of the Year in 6A-7A.

103 pounds: Connor Aist, 4-3 in the tournament, losing by pin in the consolation semifinal to Jesse Johnson of Russellville and by pin in the fifth-place match to Adam Linimon of Fort Smith Northside.
112 pounds: Dylan Watts, 2-2 in the tournament, losing by 10-3 decision to Jacob Copier on Searcy in the quarterfinal and by pin to Benji Donnell of Bentonville in consolation round 4.
119 pounds: Conner Lusby, 3rd place, 5-1 in the tournament, losing by 9-5 decision to Jake Humphries of Rogers in the semifinal then defeating Douglas Pearson by Russellville by pin in the consolation semifinal and defeating Bryan Arroyos of Fayetteville by pin in the third-place match.
125 pounds: Elliott Lusby, 3rd place, 5-1 in the tournament, losing by pin to Tyler Kurz of Cabot in the semifinal, then winning by pin of John Luken of Little Rock Central in the consolation semifinal and winning by pin over Devin Asbill of Bentonville in the third-place match.
130 pounds: Tanner Branscum, 3rd place, 5-1 in the tournament, losing to undefeated and Wrestler of the Year Tanner Mann of Little Rock Central by pin in the semifinal, the defeating Christian Falcon of Bentonville by pin in the consolation semifinal and pinning Austin Burns of Searcy in the third-place match.
135 pounds: TJ Ruth, 3-2 in the tournament, losing to Dylan Arnall of Central in the quarterfinal, then pinning Spencer Stone of Mountain Home in consolation round 4 before losing by pin to Nick Mulcahy of Rogers in consolation round 5.
140 pounds: Jaxson Myers, 2nd place, 5-1 in the tournament, defeating Logan Evans of Rogers Heritage by 5-3 decision in the semifinals before losing to Henry Reyes of Russellville by 7-2 decision in the championship match.
145 pounds: Corven Alexander, 2nd place, 4-1 in the tournament, defeating Evan Daly of Fayetteville by technical fall (20-3) in the semifinal, losing to Tyler Mann of Central (5-3 in overtime) in the championship match.
152 pounds: Morgan Shiew, 2-2 in the tournament, losing to Brandon Mulcahy of Rogers by 10-8 decision in consolation round 4.
160 pounds: Ryan Ennis, 2-2 in the tournament, losing by major decision (9-0) to Alex Rukgarber of Fayetteville in consolation round 4.
171 pounds: Camaran Azmrara, 2nd, 4-1 in the tournament, defeating Hunter Cox of Little Rock Catholic by 2-1 decision in overtime in the semifinal, then losing by 9-3 decision to Andy McDowell of Bentonville in the championship match.
189 pounds: Trent Schulthies, 3-2 for the tournament, losing by 3-2 decision to Nick Smith of Har-Ber in consolation round 4.
215 pounds: David Fulford, 4th place, 4-2 in the tournament losing by 4-2 decision to Jesus Gomez of Rogers Heritage in the semifinal, defeating Kyson Larson of Bentonville by 7-3 decision in the consolation semifinal, then losing to Edwin Santos of Rogers by 9-4 decision in the third-place match.
285 pounds: Hal Hoggard, 4-1 in the tournament, defeating Keidrick Usifo of Central by 6-2 decision in the semifinal, then losing by 2-0 decision to Martin Hernandez of Northside in the championshp match.
