The University of Central Arkansas Board of Trustees announced Monday it will hold a press conference Friday to introduce Allen Meadors as the next president of UCA.

Jack Gillean, UCA vice president for administration and co-chair of the presidential search committee, said Meadors has agreed to accept the job, but details of the contract are not yet available. He said a draft of the contract was sent to Meadors on Friday, and terms were being revised on Monday. The contract will likely be finalized today, Gillean said.

The board voted 5 to 2 on Thursday to enter into contract negotiations with Meadors. He was one of four finalists interviewed by the board recently. More than 40 applications were submitted for the job, and the search committee met frequently to narrow the pool of applicants.

Meadors has been chancellor at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke for the past 10 years. He is a Van Buren native and a graduate of UCA.

Tom Courtway has served as interim president since Aug. 29, the day after former president Lu Hardin resigned amid controversy surrounding a privately approved bonus. Courtway will return to his former role of general counsel for the university once Meadors begins his tenure.
